Michigan State football has an elite athlete taking over as a potential starting receiver this year in Tyrell Henry.

Michigan State football wide receiver Tyrell Henry showed off his elite athleticism by posting this clip on Twitter showing himself catching a pass while doing a backflip.

Henry did not record any receiving stats during his first year in East Lansing, but that doesn’t mean the skill and potential aren’t there. Out of high school, he was ranked the No. 90 receiver in his class according to 247Sports, which was good enough to just barely miss earning his fourth star.

Keon Coleman transferring and Jayden Reed heading to the NFL have left a lot of production on the table for others to pick up. Coleman and Reed combined for 113 catches for 1,434 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2022 season. That totals about 50 percent of the total receiving production for the entire team in all three categories. All that tells us is that many players are going to have to step up to fill their roles.

Henry is the perfect candidate to receive a lot of the playing time if not a full-time starting role this season. That athleticism in the video above alone shows you just how much of a threat he can really be in the passing game.

The second-year wideout did show flashes of his elite athleticism on the field in the kick return game this past season. He returned a total of 10 kickoffs for 183 yards with his longest return being 30 yards. Henry is definitely a threat in the open field and is someone who can make defenders miss once the ball is in his hands.

It’s going to take a few players to make up for the loss of Coleman and Reed, and Henry may be one of the top guys ready to take over and show Spartan Nation what he can do.
