The NCAA confirmed over the weekend that Connor Stalions was on the sidelines of the CMU vs. Michigan State football game.
It’s been an eventful weekend for Michigan State football fans in regards to witnessing the NCAA investigation unfold with Michigan and its infamous “spy”, Connor Stalions.
The former Michigan assistant was spotted on the sidelines of the Michigan State vs. Central Michigan game to start the 2023 season but the Chippewas failed to confirm that it was him despite it being very clear and obvious. He was seen wearing video-taping sunglasses and some sort of disguise to make it look like he was just a low-level Central assistant.
Amy Folan, Central’s AD, had been quiet on the matter for months despite fans wanting answers and it now seems pretty clear why she wasn’t saying more: because the NCAA was doing its own investigation and it confirmed that the mystery man was, in fact, Stalions.
This is just the latest development in the Michigan scandal that took center stage during the 2023 season and dominated headlines, especially when Jim Harbaugh was suspended at the end of the year. Sherrone Moore was even suspended at the start of the season.
And it now seems like both knew something about Stalions, especially since the NCAA is considering harsh punishments for both Michigan and Moore now that there’s more information coming to the surface.
While this doesn’t take the national title away from the Wolverines or silence that fanbase or those players any more than it probably should, it’s going to be a black eye on the program if it turns out the coaching staff did know more than it let on and Stalions was part of their plan. Letting him be the fall guy was expected, but the degree of denial from that coaching staff has been almost impressive.
So now we can get off Central’s case about the mystery man because we know it was Stalions, but we should expect to see the Chippewas do some internal coaching staff punishing because Jim McElwain let this happen.
