After being nominated a couple of weeks ago, Jeremy Fears and Xavier Booker are officially McDonald’s All-Americans.

Just weeks after being nominated along with the rest of their fellow 2023 Michigan State basketball class signees, Jeremy Fears and Xavier Booker have officially been named McDonald’s All-Americans.

Booker doesn’t come as much of a surprise seeing as he was the lone five-star signee in Michigan State’s 2023 class for months until Fears was recently given his fifth star. Xavier has been a top-10 recruit since his massive bump last year and Fears has been on the rise lately.

The two five-stars will be representing the Spartans in the annual McDonald’s All-American game this spring and it’ll be fun to finally be invested in the contest.

Max Christie was the most recent selection to the McDonald’s All-American game in 2021 for the Spartans and before that, it had been four years. Jaren Jackson Jr. was the last Spartan to receive the high honor before Christie in 2021 and now Fears and Booker are the second and third since 2017.

It wasn’t always this rare to see Michigan State recruits named to the McDonald’s All-American Game but Tom Izzo’s recruiting hit a bit of a dry spell over the past few years.

With Booker and Fears both making it, this is now the first class to have two McDonald’s All-Americans since 2016 when Josh Langford and Miles Bridges both earned that distinction.

It feels like Izzo’s recruiting is getting back on track and it’s also a good sign that Coen Carr probably wasn’t far off from All-American status and Gehrig Normand was nominated.

Michigan State’s 2023 class with Jeremy Fears, Xavier Booker, Gehrig Normand, and Coen Carr is already one of the best in program history and the fact that two are now McDonald’s All-Americans goes to show that Izzo absolutely knocked it out of the park with this group.

Next year will be special.
