Jaxon Kohler is improving quickly this offseason and appears ready for an increased role in year two.
Michigan State basketball sophomore forward Jaxon Kohler posted a highlight reel on Twitter of him dominating a pickup game.
Jaxon destroyed the competition in this video. He demonstrated his vast inventory of elite post moves with some of the best footwork I have ever seen. That footwork is what Kohler is known for and demonstrated in his freshman season at Michigan State. Kohler always showed off a deadly fadeaway jumper.
The best moment in this clip is at the 22-second mark where he hits an impressive fadeaway shot over a double team. After the shot goes in, you can hear and see a collective sigh from his opponents.
Rasheed Wallace praise
MSU Chief of Propaganda quickly compared the highlight reel to Rasheed Wallace to which Kohler replied with a video of the former Piston and NBA champion heaping praise on his game.
A shoutout from any NBA player is a big deal and shows just how great Kohler is, even if the video is old, as evidenced by a baby-faced Jaxon.
What to expect in year two
Kohler saw limited run during his freshman season but was still impressive nonetheless. He averaged 3.0 points and 2.9 rebounds while playing roughly 10 minutes per game. His best game was against Rutgers, where he registered a career-high in points (12), rebounds (11) and minutes played (23). Expect to see more of this once Jaxon starts getting more minutes.
Jaxon will come off the bench again this season with most of last year’s starting five returning. He will also have to compete with the talented incoming freshmen class for playing time. His year of experience as well as a full offseason in the weight room will likely see him earn a slightly increased role next season.
Nobody on Michigan State plays like Jaxon. His unique skill set will help keep the opposition on their toes and give Michigan State another option if our stars have an off-game. I expect big things from him this year, and I think we will see more games like his career-best night against Rutgers last year.
